How To Interview Your Best
Face-to-face interviews. Do they scare you? Here are some tips to overcome those dreaded nerves.
Dress the part. Make sure you are presentable when you turn up for an interview unless there is a specific dress code that they requested.
Prepare an elevator pitch. How would you sell yourself? The interview is the best time to do this. Know your key strengths and your key weaknesses. Know why and how you will fit into the company culture. Why do you want to work for the company?
Prepare examples. Be prepared to give examples for each key criteria required for the job. This can include project results, KPIs and so on.
Practice practice practice. You’ve thoroughly researched the company, so how do you put this to good use? Ask a friend or family member to do a mock interview with you and throw out all the possible interview questions that you can think of. By the time you get to the interview you will have many answers prepared. Not sure where to find relevant questions? Google is your best friend. The toughest questions are usually the behavioural types, e.g. ‘Tell me about a time when you overcame a conflict between you and your direct manager.’
Have a future goal in mind. Where do you see yourself in the future? Does this align with the company, if so, bring it up in the interview!
‘Any questions?’ This is the most commonly asked question towards the end of your interview. Always have questions prepared to show you are interested in pursuing the role. If you already have set questions you want to ask, that’s great! If not, some examples would be: ‘What is the career progression like within your company?’ ‘I see your company has offices internationally, what are my chances of relocating internally?’ Use this opportunity to show you have researched the company or to really nail down your decision on whether to take the job if you do get accepted.
Confidence is key! Practice enough and research well and you’ll be more than ready to tackle the interview!
